A Waco, Texas pastor has banned members of his congregation from wearing weaves! He tried it!!!
During an interview, Pastor A.J. Aamir of Resurrecting Faith in Waco, Texas recently told AmericanPreachers.com that weaves present a false image and are associated with women who have low self-esteem. He told the website:
“Our black women are getting weaves trying to be something and someone they are not. Be real with yourself is all I’m saying.”
“Long hair don’t care. What kind of mess is that? I don’t want my members so focused on what’s on their heads and not IN their heads. I lead a church where our members are struggling financially. I mean really struggling. Yet, a 26 year old mother in my church has a $300 weave on her head. NO. I will not be quiet about this.”
This pastor will more than likely have a significantly smaller congregation this Sunday! Hair is just hair and to single out and characterize black women who wear weaves as having low self-esteem and as being “someone that they are not” seems just plain ignorant. There are many races (both men and women) who wear weaves and also experiment with hair dyes and cuts. Many women also seek to protect their own hair by wearing weaves. So as I sling my waist-long Senegalese twists with all of the confidence in the world, I just have one question for Pastor Aamir, why you so mad though?!
