Zoe Saldana might be the new Queen of Sci-Fi films, Farewell to Robin Williams and more This Week in Fashion...

Is it just me or is Zoe Saldana slowly but surely becoming the Queen of Sci-Fi films? Zoe reigned supreme, once again, in the new Marvel adaptation of ‘Guardians’ of the Galaxy.’ The film had an all-star cast, a great plot, a classic soundtrack and some genuinely funny exchanges. I honestly wasn’t familiar with the plot prior to the film so I appreciated that ‘Guardians’ didn’t try to be anything other than what it was. A bunch of misunderstood characters joining forces to save the galaxy. I look forward to the next film.

The film world and the world at large lost a true gem this week as we learned of actor Robin Williams sudden passing. Happy Days + Mork & Mindy (re-runs for me), Dead Poet’s Society, Hook, Ferngully, Aladdin, Mrs. Doubtfire, Jumanji, Jack, Flubber, Good Will Hunting, What Dreams May Come, Patch Adams...need I go on? Williams was a truly gifted, talented, and passionate man that brought a lot of joy to a lot of people. I know his body of work certainly filled my childhood with a lot of joy. At the age of 7 ‘Aladdin’ was just about everything to me so the news of Robin’s passing certainly saddened me. Because he was such a well-liked/loved figure I know ahead lies a ton of speculation and critique. I do hope the public will show his family respect and remember that depression, addiction, and mental illness are real things many people suffer from. Robin’s tragic passing has reopened a conversation that it’s about time we have. I encourage anyone struggling with unexplainable sadness to talk with your friends, loved ones, or anyone. There is help out there.
