2014 Golden Globe Awards Best Dressed

As much as it pains me to say this…I believe Lupita Nyong’o was robbed. Don’t get me wrong I love Jennifer Lawrence, however I believe Lupita deserved the Golden Globe for her performance in ’12 Years A Slave.’ Here’s hoping the Academy gets it right. Although she did not walk away with a Golden Globe…SHE STILL WON! The Ralph Lauren silky gown that featured an off the shoulder cape “did it” on everybody. Lupita basically said “look here…I’m actually a superhero…I wear capes for fun…this isn’t an act. I’m actually like superman I just put on my Clark Kent outfit so you guys feel more comfortable.” Do you see where I’m going with this? Okay I’ll stop. The gown was gorgeous; she looked flawless; she will win the Oscar; and she will continue winning in life. That is all.

Actress Amy Adams, who won the Golden Globe for her role in ‘American Hustle,’ stunned on the red carpet in a gown reminiscent of the 70’s wardrobe featured in the award winning film. The gown was selected from the Valentino Haute Couture ‘theShanghai’ collection and featured a crimson red plunging backless halter that meets a ruby red flowing skirt. Even though this gown is from the “Shanghai” collection, I can’t help but see how on par it is with the 1970’s vibe of the character she played in ‘American Hustle.’ Having seen the majority of the nominated films this year, I have to say, I am completely thrilled for Amy winning in her category. It’s not easy running against heavy hitters like Meryl Streep and Julia Louis-Dreyfus. Amy truly became her character and I’m glad the foreign press recognized her phenomenal work.

‘Modern Family’ actress Ariel Winter looked beautiful in a Mikael D design. The burgundy gown and golden clutch gave the young actress a very sophisticated look. I think this was a smart move to show the who’s who of Hollywood that she is ready to play ball in roles outside of comedy.

I love everything about Zoe Saldana’s red carpet look. Zoe wore a black & pink Prabal Gurung off the shoulder dress that featured a number of embellishments and materials including my favorite, lace! Pink pumps, a pink clutch, and a pigeon-toed pose solidified Zoe as most adorable of the night.

This year I think the back of the gowns mattered just as much, if not more than the front. This theory was proven true by actress Amber Heard who was spotted on the red carpet wearing a beautiful Atelier Versace gown. The navy blue design featured one shoulder of ruched detailing and a hip high slit. The back just as gorgeous as the front deserves a round of applause. A pair of Jimmy Choo ‘New Mariah’ pumps and Graziela Gems frosting completed her look.

I was so pleasantly surprised to see actress Emma Watson on the red carpet looking like everything in a Christian Dior design. The red floor length short sleeved gown featured a ribbon closure at the waist and a number of thigh-high slits. From the front, it at first looks a bit plain but the second Emma turned around; I sat down because she won. The secret ingredient to her look was a pair of black skinny cropped trousers that could be seen clearly through an open back that went to the floor. A pair of blue Roger Vivier pumps finished off her look.

Vanessa Hudgens looked like a cast member of ‘American Hustle’ in a cream colored Georgio Armani gown. She was spotted in the jaw-dropping gown at the InStyle and Warner Bros Golden Globe After-Party. The plunging necked halter gown was backless and featured crystal-like embellishments. Some diamond frosting and a golden clutch finished off her look.

Also a vision for the evening was none other than Lady Gaga who looked like a “golden globe” in a Perry Meek dress. She was seen at HBO’s Post 2014 Golden Globe Awards Party. A heavily embellished corset was covered with a shimmering off the shoulder wrap that exposed one leg with a hip-high slit. Sky-high platforms finished off her look.

Who knew Usher could knock several gowns off my list to take up my final spots for Golden Globe fashion wins. He looked extraordinarily handsome in a wool Calvin Klein “oxblood” colored tuxedo. Usher opted for a dark look and wore a black dress shirt and black bow tie & shoes. Guys…are you taking notes?

I am over the moon that Leonardo DiCaprio won the Golden Globe for his performance in ‘Wolf of Wall Street.” Leo has an amazing body of work that spans decades. In spite of 10 Golden Globe nominations and now 2 wins he has yet to win the coveted Oscar after 3 nominations. This might be his year.
