The Importance of Hip Hop, the Youth and Politics

hip hop youth and politics crowdTwo forums were held this past Friday, involving members of the Hip Hop world, during the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s (CBCF) 43rd Annual Legislative Conference (ALC) at the Washington, D.C. Convention Center.

The first session was “Hip Hop & Politics: Our Generation’s March Toward America’s Future,” hosted by Rep. Andre Carson (D-In.), where panelists discussed the current state of Hip Hop, our youth and politics.  Panelists included legendary Hip Hop moguls DMC, member of the iconic group Run DMC and MC Lyte; along with Rev. Lennox Yearwood, President, Hip Hop Caucus;  Hank Shocklee ,Founder, Public Enemy; Michael Skolnik, President, GlobalGrind.com; and Angela Rye, President, Impact Strategies.

The other session entitled, “Young, Gifted and Black Brain trust,” featured guest panelist and legendary Texas Hip Hop icon, Bun-B, member of the legendary Hip-Hop group, UGK.  This session was hosted by Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Ca.).
