Thousands to congregate at STEM-driven challenge spearheaded by 2014 White House STEM
Pre-K through 12th grade students throughout the nation will have a chance to address global initiatives on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at the George R. Brown Convention Center (General Assembly Theater, 3rd Level) in the C-STEM Ninth Annual C-STEM Challenge and iSTEM Olympiad.
This innovative, team-oriented competition using CSTEM (Communication, Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics)-driven applications is an initiative fueled in part by the efforts of Dr. Reagan Flowers, president and CEO of C-STEM Teacher and Student Support Services, Inc. For more than a decade, C-STEM has provided teachers and students with rigorous and relevant learning experiences that are engaging, fun, challenging and creative. The challenge is designed to inspire the next generation of innovators and thought leaders with a focused theme that "Everyone is an Artist and an Engineer."
The Fourth Annual State of STEM Education Address will kick off the 2014 C-STEM Challenge Weekend on Friday, April 25, 2014 - 7:30 a.m. at the Hilton Americas during the annual Shell Eco-marathon Americas 2014 challenge. C-STEM aims to involve students globally in STEM challenges in related workforce areas, while inspiring them to consider innovative solutions to help secure our future. Success at C-STEM is determined by projects students create in robotics, geoscience, 3D printing, art, film making, and photography.

Success at Shell Eco-marathon is determined by the distance each team travels using the least amount of energy on a track on the streets of downtown Houston.
On Feb. 26, 2014, Dr. Reagan Flowers was recognized in Washington, DC as one of the 2014 White House STEM Access Champions of Change Honorees. The Champions of Change program was created to feature individuals, businesses and organizations doing extraordinary things to empower and inspire members of their communities.
"I am the proud visionary of the catalogue of widgets that comprise the C-STEM Challenge. I can hardly wait to see the innovative projects students have created using robotics, 3D printing, murals, sculptures, films, and photography," said Dr. Flowers.
C-STEM has impacted more than 100,000 students. Dr. Flowers began her education career as a high school science teacher and remained dedicated to her calling as a leader in academia. Dr. Flowers’ experience inspired her to address the academic achievement gap through the founding of C-STEM. In 2002, Dr. Flowers created the nation’s first integrated STEM enrichment program for Pre-K through 12th grade. For 12 years, Dr. Flowers has implementing integrated STEM best practices into classrooms internationally.
