TSU College of Pharmacy Health Sciences Names New Dean

Dr  Stemly New COPHS DeanFollowing an extensive and inclusive search process, Texas Southern University has announced that Dr. Edward C. Stemley, Jr, has been appointed as the new Dean of the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (COPHS). He will begin his role as Texas Southern University newest Dean on September 9, 2013.

Dr. Stemly currently serves as the Vice Chair in the Division of Clinical and Administrative Sciences in the College of Pharmacy at Xavier University in New Orleans.

"I am very excited and grateful for the opportunity to become the Dean of a college [COPHS] that is positioned to excel,” Stemly says. “With its integrated combination of nine clinical and administrative health-related degree programs, the COPHS is well positioned to lead the current movement in interdisciplinary health education. I would like to sincerely thank everyone who was involved in my selection as Dean and I look forward to working with all of the committed TSU students, faculty, staff, administrators, and alumni to positively contribute to the vision of excellence established by the leadership of this storied institution."

Prior to joining Xavier, Dr. Stemly served as Chief Pharmacy Officer at the Harris County Hospital District (now Harris Health.) He received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Xavier University and a master’s degree from The Ohio State University. He completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency with an emphasis in Health System Administration from The Ohio State University Medical Center.
