The 2013 BET “Rip the Runway” production was full of fashion, music, and a few pleasant surprises. I haven’t been so excited about this particular BET program since childhood friend, Fashion Blogger, and MTV’s first Twitter Jockey Gabi Gregg of GabiFresh.com was a presenter. This year fashionista Kelly Rowland and former Ford model Boris Kodjoe hosted the fashion show.
Altogether the program was fluid but as always there were a couple standout designs that I want to share with you. My absolute favorite look of the evening was a gown made by Lebanese designer Nicolas Jebran. Jebran’s elegant sky-blue peekaboo gown that was reminiscent of frosting, stole the ‘Fashion Freedom’ scene. During this scene each model was accessorized with Miss G Design’s headpieces which were beautiful sculptures, but I found them to be distracting with these particular dresses.
Throughout the evening I was pleasantly surprised to see host Boris Kodjoe modeling impeccably tailored suits from his own clothing company ALFA. This clothing line is described as “revolutionary” has successfully fused the idea of luxury and affordability. My pick of the night for him was the white suit with red lapel and lining. The best part about this line is ladies Boris thought about you as well. There are some fabulous suits for women that are tailored to ensure a woman still looks shapely and beautiful.
Designers I must mention include: MSFTS, Shanda Freeman, NaNa Boateng, Jungle Girl, Lie Sang Bong, and Sandros.
Until next time....Grace
This hauntingly beautiful gown was my favorite look of the night. What draws me to this look are the patterns and the gradient of blue hues used to design this gown. The contrasts in texture and color make it almost look like candy.
Favorite moment of the night was when Willow Smith joined big brother Jaden Smith during his performance. The stage and crowd lit up when Willow graced the runway like a true professional decked in attire from her brother’s “MSFTS” clothing line.
