The University of Houston’s leading wide receiver from last season has been declared academically ineligible and is no longer with the team.
DeWayne Peace led the Cougars with 54 receptions for 602 yards and two touchdowns last season. During the season, he missed three games serving a suspension for a violation of team rules.
Though he was the leading receiver, Peace was not projected to start this season. In spring practice he was running with the second-team. As of this date, Deontay Greenberry, Larry McDuffey, Xavier Maxwell, and Daniel Spencer are expected to be the starters for UH.
The Cougars also announced Monday the addition of defensive back Lee Hightower, a transfer from Boise State. Hightower started 11 of 15 games in two seasons at Boise before being suspended midseason for violating team rules. He will sit out this year and has two years of eligibility remaining.
Head Coach Tony Levine announced Dallas Blacklock as director of high school relations. Blacklock, was the head football coach at Sharpstown High School for the past two seasons.
