The North Shore Mustangs ran past the Kingwood Mustangs 48-28 in front of a sellout crowd at Galena Park ISD Stadium.
North Shore, ranked # 4 in the area in Class 5A broke open a close game in the fourth quarter outscoring Kingwood 20-7 in route to a homecoming win. North Shore’s defense led by senior Arnold Robinson and sophomore’s Trevon Tate and NaJee Toran made huge plays in the last three minutes of the game.
Kingwood faked a punt late in the game and ran for a first down setting up a 17 yard touchdown run by Kade Harrington with 3:02 left in the fourth quarter. This score pulled the Mustangs to within 35-28.
North Shore senior running back Davonte Milton had a huge gain of over 40 yards and then he capped off that run with a 7-yard touchdown with 2:45 remaining. The crowd was loud and on their feet as the Mustangs defense rose to the occasion stopping Kingwood on every down. And junior linebacker Ronzell Jones recovered a fumble and returned it 39 yards for a touchdown to seal the victory.
Junior quarterback Micah Thomas has now accounted for 12 touchdowns since taking over as the starter for North Shore.
