The historic Lone Star Golf Association recently held its President’s Breakfast at Hermann Park Golf Course, with over one hundred golfers and friends in attendance. Reggie Aitch serves as President of this sixty-six year old association James “Baseball” Montgomery of the Ralph Cooper Sports Show, KCOH, 1430AM served as Master of Ceremonies. Pastor Raymond E. Hall, Jr., of Sons of Israel Baptist Church presented the invocation, Raymond Reaux, Junior Golf Director, stated.” Mary Hall, secretary conducted the raffle with great prizes. James Sherrod reviewed the Golf Rules, Keith Huff, Tournament Director presented the 2012 Calendar of Events for the association.
Representatives from other associations were: Don Washington, of Lite Pros Golf Association of Greater Houston, Deno Robertson, Panthers Backers, Georgia Provost, F. N. Williams, Sr. Golf Classic, Versee and Pat Carter, and Artie Onayemi, of the Conrad O. Johnson Music and Fine Arts discussed their upcoming golf tournament.
The Lone Star Golf Association which originally was called the Houston Golf Association, was founded in 1946 by Charles M. Washington, Lee Powell, Eugene Harrison and Howard McCowan.
In 1947, the City of Houston agreed to let the organization use Memorial Park Golf Course to conduct a one-day golf tournament. After several years of playing the one-day event, the tournament was changed to a two-day affair.
For over twenty-one years, Lone Star Golf Association has conducted its Youth Program for kids from 6-17 years of age at absolutely no cost.
