v30_arethaA little while ago, singing diva Aretha Franklin expressed that she was a bit hurt that she, among other legends, have not been asked to judge any of the popular singing shows.

Now that Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler have declared the end of their judging careers on “American Idol,” the queen of soul revived an interest in being involved.

In response to an email question asking Franklin whether she is interested in joining “Idol” as a judge or a mentor, the singer responded, “Yes I am interested as a judge!”

The 70-year-old has been around the block and feels she is more than ready to take on a role like this.

Tyler, the lead singer for Aerosmith, announced Thursday that he would not be returning for a third season of “Idol.” Just a day later, Lopez announced the same fate. Faithful Randy Jackson remains the only judge for the show, for now.

v30_shaqShaq O’Neal has a new thing going on.

The recently retired basketball player and PHD is partnering with a few of his comic friends to launch a new show tentatively called “Upload with Shaquille O’Neal.”

Shaq and friends, including Gary Owen and Godfrey, will comment on web videos and create their own parodies. The series has been green-lighted for 10 episodes on TruTV.

v30_con“Django Unchained” stars Jamie Foxx and Kerry Washington received a standing ovation at Comic-Con along with director Quentin Tarantino and other cast members after introducing a short preview clip of the film at the annual San Diego convention.

Foxx stars as Django, a slave whose history with his former owners lands him face-to-face with German-born bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz). Schultz is on the trail of the murderous Brittle brothers, and only Django can lead him to his bounty. The unorthodox Schultz acquires Django with a promise to free him upon the capture of the Brittles – dead or alive.

Actors Walton Goggins, Don Johnson, Kerry Washington, Christoph Waltz and Jamie Foxx attend “Django Unchained” at Comic-Con 2012 at Hilton San Diego Bayfront Hotel on July 14, 2012 in San Diego.

v25_different_worldOne of my favorite sitcoms of all time is “A Different World,” the “Cosby Show” spin-off series that followed the lives of students at Hillman College, a fictional historically black college located in Virginia. Though the series had a slow first season, “A Different World” ultimately managed to captivate audiences and was critically praised for displaying an accurate depiction of life on the campus of an HBCU.
