The year was 1927 and inventions like the talking picture, the electric razor and the videophone had hit mainstream America. That same year on Sept. 14, funding for what would eventually become Texas Southern University was approved, tran-scending educational opportunities for blacks living in Houston.
To commemorate the 85th anniversary of the school’s founding, Texas Southern University has embarked on an ambitious journey to tell “OUR Story”. The OUR Story Project boldly places a historically accurate face upon the university by spotlighting the individuals who helped to transform moments into movements, and personal experiences into profound events that have impacted this city, state, country and world immeasurably. The Our Story Museum Exhibit will showcase these individuals and historical moments with an exciting display of artifacts, photos, documents and video and audio recordings.
