Still out of breath from the wonderful time I had with the Sister’s Network “Stop the Silence” 3rd Annual National African American Breast Cancer 5K Walk/Run, at Discovery Green, Saturday morning.  This year’s gathering was an awesome sight to see, as breast cancer survivors, their families, supporters and other volunteers, dressed in various pink outfits, to show their unity, packed Discovery Green to participate in, contribute donations to, and walk to help raise money to aid in the fight against breast cancer.

v16_hazel_fabulousWhen you talk about the NCAA Final Four Basketball Championship games, trust me there is more than basketball playing going on. It’s time for the parties. Big parties, hotel lobby parties, invitation only parties and VIP parties, and here’s a peek into some of each.

v13_society_articleWashington, D.C. served as gracious host to the National Newspaper Publishers Association, as they converged onto the fair city in honor of Black Press Week, celebrated March 14-17, 2012. Black Press Week honors and reminds black newspapers across the country of their beginning, and honors those publishers that have passed on, with an enshrinement ceremony. When Mr. Russwurm and Mr. Cornish said, ‘We wish to plead our own cause. For too long have others spoken for us,’ they began publishing the very first Black newspaper on March 1827. It’s with that pride that black newspapers continue to inform the black community all over the world.

v9_hazel_societyValentine’s Day just another day?, naw, not here. Love was truly in the air this past weekend as Dwayne Adams and Terri Diane Wright Howard tied the knot. The wedding ceremony took place at the beautiful University of Houston, A.D. Bruce Religion Chapel, married by Pastor Charles Miles, nestled deep on the college campus grounds.

The reception followed immediately at Cafe 4212 on Almeda.
