Karen Carter Richards, Jolanda Jones and Hazey RamseyI would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Larry Green, for tirelessly inviting me to his various events, I finally got to one. Even though Saturday night’s gala fell on the exact night as my 15 year old’s homecoming dance, I managed to swing it. The ballroom at the Hilton Americas Hotel was the backdrop for the HoustonWorks USA Biennial Black Tie Gala, “Putting Houstonians Back to Work.” The room was beautifully decorated with white organza flowers, tables topped with floating candles, glittered branches and textured fabrics.

Karen Carter Richards cuts her cakeFABULOUS AT FIFTY!

If you were not at The Fabulous Groovey Grill Mansion , Third Ward, Tx., on the first day of October, don’t fret; I’m here to tell you all about it! Houston Forward Times’ CEO/Publisher Karen Carter Richards, was surrounded by family, friends and colleagues as she celebrated her “50th” birthday! And when I tell you we partied, we partied!!!!!!! Karen’s theme for the party was “Glitz, Glamour and Diamonds”, and that’s exactly what it was. There were guests there that have been her friends since day care, junior high and high school. Her adult children Jesse Frazier, II and Chelsea Blanco, traveled in from Louisiana to attend.

Happy Birthday at Club Faces

Club Faces was the scene Thursday night as Third Ward girl Cindy Tyler blew out the candles on her delicious birthday cake surrounded by friends and family.  I had no idea how nice the club life on Almeda had become. WOW.  Cindy dazzled everyone in a Betsey Johnson couture black ruffled dress, with the aroma of Jo Malone’s signature fragrance, complete with Jimmy Choo black strappy sandals, accented by black silk flowers in her hair and a black channel clutch.  Sounds fabulous, right?  Of course, she’s my baby sister!

Tonya Boyd and Cheree Dailey40, Fierce, and Fabulous!

Cheree Brown- Dailey recently celebrated the big 40th with a lavish All White Party held at her burb address.  The party’s backdrop featured white lounge chairs, white sofas, a dance floor, live band, large TV screens that displayed her pictures throughout the evening, two fully staffed bars with as much liquor as you could order,  as well as a Margarita machine. The backyard looked as if I had stepped into a chic Miami lounge!  Pappasito’s Catering was set up in the front of the home, complete with a smoking hot grill, serving a full Mexican Fajita Dinner.

There was plenty of good eating, drinking and laughing recently, as the Afro American Police Officer’s Association (AAPOL), held their annual picnic. This event gives officers a chance to fellowship with others, see what they look like outside of the uniforms, let their spouses, children, parents and friends mingle with each other, as well as dance, show off their prized toys (motorcycles) and joke and laugh.  My good friend Gary Hicks, Sr., was nice enough to invite me to this event as well as share his magnificent pictures with me.  A good time was had by all, despite the soaring temperatures.  Spotted were Tracy Richardson, President, Gary Hicks, Sr., Vice President, Tangela Nichols, Treasurer, Rhonda Williams, Board Member, Police Chief Charles McClelland, Executive Asst. Chief Michael Dirden, Lt. Mattie Provost, Hubert Watson served as the jammin DJ for the day.
