MomentAs many of you know I am in total awe of the concept of time when looking at how man calculates time and how God looks at time. The phrase I heard from the pulpit one Sunday morning still resonates with me. “An emergency in your time does not necessarily mean an emergency in God’s time.” I am reminded that time is a precious blessing and if we are enough, sometimes a moment can indeed last forever. If we could only adjust our thinking to this fact, then a moment could last a lifetime and living in that moment would be well, truly special. I believe we’ve all done it, even when we didn’t know it.

GodWordSometimes in church we’re asked to say something or pray out loud. It is at these times that I am reminded of what I call a personal revelation about the “Word.” My reference regarding this is John 1:1-2. In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God.”

Blessed_2I have a belief that people would rather show you their perceived strengths than reveal to you their perceived weaknesses. From experience I think we would like the world to see us in what we think is our best light. For reasons that only we know, we want to keep our shortcomings hidden, hopefully to never see the light of day. Some of us have become expert at tricking ourselves into believing that what we show the world and others is our true self and not the one we confront each night when we are by ourselves.

Blessed_2One of the things I’ve come to understand along the way on this faith walk of mine is an understanding that some things that serve you well in this natural world can actually be detrimental to you in the spiritual world. Independence, self reliance, self motivation, talent, drive, a never say die attitude, supreme confidence, these and other human traits including pure determination and confidence can give us a sense of invulnerability and accomplishment attributable to ourselves.

Blessed_2Does anybody else have issues with reconciling faith and submission? I’m talking about sacrifice and acceptance of someone else’s will, admittedly, superseding your own. The life we all live seems to teach us to be and act independently of one another just to survive. Men, particularly Black men, survive in this natural world sometimes because of their egos, stubbornness, attitude and unwillingness to submit to Man.
