It was a wild and crazy weekend for area high school football playoff teams as many top-ranked teams were upset, ending their season of trying to reach the State Championship game!
Moving on into the Regional Finals this week will be the North Shore Mustangs, Lamar Redskins, Katy Tigers, Cy Ranch, Nederland Bulldogs, Fort Bend Marshall Buffaloes, West Orange Stark, and Navasota Rattlers.
Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt surpassed former Green Bay Packers DE Reggie White, by becoming the first player in NFL history to notch 15 sacks and 15 pass breakups in one season.
Watt knew he had a chance to equal an achievement by one of the most iconic players of all time for the Packers. He was only half a sack away from matching Reggie White’s 1991 feat of 15 sacks and 1 pass breakups in one season.
The Houston Texans secured their second consecutive playoff berth with a 24-10 victory over the Tennessee Titans at L.P. Logan Field in Nashville, Tennessee. With the win, Houston now moved to 11-1 on the season, setting a record for most wins in franchise history.
With three weeks of fan voting for the Pro Bowl remaining, Texans running back Arian Foster and defensive end J.J. Watt continue to rake in the votes.
Foster leads all running backs and ranks third among all NFL players with 519,261 votes. Only Peyton Manning (586,523) and Tom Brady (534,020) have more. Watt leads all NFL defensive players with 320,236 votes, almost 100,000 more than the next-closest defensive player, Clay Matthews (228,494)
It was one of the most anticipated games of the start of the 2012 season. The Houston Texans home opener against the Miami Dolphins was finally here!
Tailgaters were out in full force early, with cars more than a mile long waiting to get into the parking lot gates. It was a slow start for Houston offensively, but thanks to a huge defensive spark led by 2nd year veteran J.J. Watt, the team came alive in the second-quarter and scored 21-unanswered points in route to a 30-10 victory over the Miami Dolphins in front of a sold out crowd at Reliant Stadium.
