Race for City Hall SeatsThe City of Houston has found itself in the middle of one of her ugliest elections in recent memory. Candidate Dave Wilson has decided that he and Paul Bettencourt would make Mayor Annise Parker’s sexual orientation an issue in the Mayoral election. Dave Wilson started running his negative ads two weeks ago. Mayor Parker has decided to ignore these ads and is taking the high road, talking about the achievements of her administration.



Election ResultsThe results of the 2011 election are in and the Houston Forward Times is here to give you the results of the key races that everyone was watching. Although the overall voter turnout was low again, there were some extremely close races that were too close to predict prior to election day. Those races are:


In a surprisingly low vote total than anyone expected, Mayor Annise Parker managed to fend off five challengers and a runoff, to win reelection with 51% of the vote for a second term as Houston City Mayor. With those relatively low vote totals for an incumbent Mayor, the potential challengers for a 2013 campaign will more than likely announce their candidacy early.

Eleven-year-old Callie Holley held her first book signing in the foyer of Living Word Fellowship Church, on Oct. 30. The young author sold and signed nearly 70 books, and received well wishes from 100 or more well wishers. It was late August when Holley stood before a crowd of more than 500 people at LWFC, beckoning the congregation to pre-order her book, No Bullying Zone. “My book is based on my own personal experience with bullying,” she told the crowd, adding, “I overcame [bullying] with the help of God, my family and friends.”

State Senator AcquitedBALTIMORE (AP) -- A federal jury acquitted a prominent Maryland state senator Tuesday of corruption charges alleging he accepted more than $245,000 to advocate for a grocery store chain while he was chairman of a powerful budget committee.


Atty. General Greg AbbottAUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- Texas cannot proceed with elections under new redistricting maps without a trial, a Washington-based federal court ruled Tuesday, saying the state used an inadequate analysis to determine whether new districts discriminate against minorities.

Living Large while people starve(GIN) -  Allegations of corruption and the massive looting of state funds are being leveled at another African leader who, with his son, faces charges in France and the U.S.

The U.S.  Justice Dept. this week filed suit against Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue, eldest son of President Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mbasogo of Equatorial Guinea, West Africa. The long-awaited suit seeks forfeiture of $70.8 million obtained through corruption and money laundering, it was alleged.
