v25_FoundationStaffTampa Bay Buccaneers defensive end Amobi Okoye hosted the 5th Annual Kickoff 4 Kids Celebrity Weekend with a series of events, June 8-9th in Houston, Texas.

Okoye and the Invictus 91 Foundation hosted their 1st Annual Golf Tournament at the Wildcat Golf Club located in Southwest Houston.

On Saturday afternoon, the 5th Annual Kickoff 4 Kids Celebrity Basketball game was held at the University of Houston Hofheinz Pavilion. The fun-filled family event benefitted Future Teachers of America, and attendees got to meet some of their favorite NFL stars and Houston Texans and other celebrities.

Mega-lawsuit says NFL hid brain injury links

A concussion-related lawsuit bringing together scores of cases has been filed in federal court, accusing the NFL of hiding information that linked football-related head trauma to permanent brain injuries.

Lawyers for former players say more than 80 pending lawsuits are consolidated in the “master complaint”, filed last week. Plaintiffs hope to hold the NFL responsible for the care of players suffering from dementia, Alzheimer’s disease and the other neurological conditions. Other former players remain asymptomatic, but worry about the future and want medical monitoring. The helmet-maker, Riddell, Inc. is named as a defendant.

v24_TrackRice University women’s track and field student-athletes Becky Wade, Allison Pye, and Sophie Peeters have been named to the Capital One Academic District VII First Team presented by CoSIDA.

Wade, majoring in history, sociology, and psychology, graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Rice with a 4.00 grade point average. The Dallas, native has been honored as Rice’s top female student-athlete with the Joyce Pounds Hardy Award and was also awarded a Thomas J. Watson Fellowship.

v24_MattDanielsMatt Daniel, who quickly built a successful NCAA Division I women’s basketball program at Central Arkansas, was named as the new head women’s basketball coach at Marshall University.

Daniel, 35, replaces Royce Chadwick, who resigned last month after 11 seasons at Marshall. At UCA, Daniel earned a reputation as a spirited and tireless young coach who displayed an ability to turn around a program. He is 72-50 for his career as a head coach and finished his last three seasons at UCA with a 66-26 record.

With golf icon Nicklaus watching in amazement, Tiger birdied three of the last four holes to win his 73rd PGA title, his fifth Memorial title and second win since his infamous sex scandal erupted in November 2009. 

Since the age of 10, Z has been nothing short of amazing.

In her first summer of competitive play at age 11, she received the “Player of the Year” award from the Atlanta Junior Golf Association after winning every tournament she entered. At 14, she made her first hole-in-one and Qualified and Won First Place in LPGA U.S. Womens Open. At 17, Zakiya was the first female golf channel champion to win a men’s amateur golf tournament.

The event, which was held on the Heineken Terrace at BBVA Compass Stadium, located at 2200 Texas Street, was one of the most anticipated events in the history of the Dynamo franchise.
