  • The Houston Rockets defeated the Atlanta Hawks 95-84 on New Year’s Eve. Four Rockets scored in double-figures led by shooting guard Kevin Martin with 27 points. Luis Scola, Chase Budinger, and Jordan Hill added 21,17, and 11 points each.


  • Point Guard Kyle Lowry dished out a career-high 18 assists vs. the Atlanta Hawks.


  • Joe Johnson led Atlanta with 15 points. Former Houston Rockets Tracy McGrady and Josh Smith added 13 and 12 points each in the loss.

113011_texans_qbHOUSTON—Desperate for a veteran to back up rookie quarterback T.J. Yates, the Texans brought in Jake Delhomme and Jeff Garcia for tryouts.

It was the second time in two weeks Garcia worked out for the coaches, but coach Gary Kubiak chose Delhomme, who retired to raise horses in Louisiana after Cleveland released him in late July.

The Houston Cougars are 10-0 for the first-time in school history and they are catching the eyes of people across the nation.

As the Cougars prepare to return home this weekend for their regular-season home finale vs. the SMU Mustangs, they will accomplish another first in the 2011 season.

banner_yolandeManvel senior duo of quarterback Julian Walker and running back Trenard Taplin combined for 341 yards of total offense and 5 touchdowns to help the Mavericks capture the District 24-4A Championship with a 44-21 victory over the Dawson Eagles at “The Rig” in Pearland, Texas.


Houston Cougars senior quarterback Case Keenum became the NCAA’s All-time passing leader with a 407 yard passing, 2 touchdown performance in a 56-13 win over UAB in Birmingham, Alabama.


Rice Owls senior quarterback Nick Fanuzzi produced 671 yards of total offense in route to a 41-37 win over UTEP in a C-USA matchup at Rice Stadium.


The Owls (3-6,2-4 in Conference USA), put together their most complete offensive performance in nearly a year. Rice has won its last eight November home games dating back to 2007. The win snapped a season-high, three-game losing streak.


TSU quarterback Riko Smalls threw for a career-high 365 yards and three touchdowns and ran for a score to lead Texas Southern to a 29-15 victory over the Southern Jaguars in its regular season home finale Saturday night at Delmar Stadium.
